Sudden Silence
A 100-word story
“C’mere…” His lips languish over each letter that spills, then spews after another brew. My hesitant heels clip-clop across the kitchen floor while my hands shake in unison with the earth. Neither honest truth nor deep conviction are compatible with him, so I wait to receive wrath as I brace for impact.
Instead of the familiar crack on cheek, I hear an ominous click and creak. Before my brain can process the sound, an abrupt bang echoes now. All of his memories splatter on the ground. My eyes open with fondness at the man that cared so much it hurt.
